Southwest District Young Adult Standing Committee
Position Descriptions

Name:

The name of the committee shall be the Southwest Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network (SWUUYAN).

Mission Statement:

To promote Unitarian Universalist principles and ideals among young adults.  To foster the involvement of, and be a resource for, Young Adults in local, Southwest District and Continental Unitarian Universalist communities. To promote and maintain communication within the Southwest District Young Adult Community. To Encourage the District at large to recognize the needs of UU Young Adults.

Objectives:

·         To encourage the activities of new and ongoing local Young Adult and Campus Ministry groups by providing organizational information and other resources.
·         To encourage local groups to post Young Adult activities to the SWUUC and CUUYAN websites.
·         To submit newsletter articles for the district newsletter and mail to Young Adults to the Southwest District.
·         To provide Southwest District representation for Young Adults at various District and Continental UU events.
·         To promote Southwest Young Adult representation on district communities.
·         To organize annual weekend events for SWUUYAN, including at least  a leadership development conference and social action event.

Meetings:

The committee will meet four times annually, at the spring and fall conferences of the Southwest District, at the Southwest Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute, and at an annual planning retreat. 

SWUUYAN Board Structure:

The Board will consist of five standing and three ex-officio members.  The standing members will be in the positions of President, Secretary, Treasurer, YRUU Liaison, and Events Coordinator.  The ex-officio members will be the SWUUSI Board Young Adult Representative as a liaison, a District Board liaison (preferably a young adult), and a member of the District Staff as support.

The board members will be appointed by the SWUUYAN Board President with the support of the Board.

Budget:

SWUUYAN shall have a line item in the Southwest District budget.  This budget will be used in a discretionary basis to fund the SWUUYAN newsletter, to fund 1/2 registration cost for committee members to attend District conferences, and to fund various scholarship requests as approved by the SWUUYAN committee.
